DJ TRUE |
||||||||||||
A native New Yorker of Brazilian descent, DJ True “has seen dance trends come and go, clubs rise and fall and musical forms fracture into meaning-less sub-genres all along the way, but he has been one of the few – the very few - to make sense of it all and distill the music down to its core element of transplanted African rhythms” DJ True made his mark as an on-air personality and host of The “Deeper Than Disco” radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio and Harlem's WHCR 90.3 FM where it aired as a weekly for over 8 years with an endless list of live guests. In 2004 he established ALMA “All for the Love of Music & Art” (which means SOUL in Portuguese) with Joann Jimenez (Wave, Deep Space, Body & SOUL) and Miller Cruz (MG, Brazil ). DJ True marries the traditional sounds of samba, pagode, bossa nova to house, drum n' bass, Latin & Afro beats – what a beautiful union. The combination has produced quite a serious monthly party introducing the world to their own unique style they themselves call “Neo-Brasilian Fusion”. They share the heart and intense party nature of Brazilians with their patrons by bringing back memories of old NYC, where the party spirit was once similar to that of Brazil in many ways. |
